Why do people wear a Pittsburgh pirates hate if they aren’t even that good? Like people from my school wear them and say they are the best. They don’t even know one bit about baseball let alone whose actually on the team. A good uniform does not make a baseball team.

Wiz Khalifa video. That's where the recent popularity in Pirates caps started. .........Remember Atlanta Braves navy denim hats back when Usher first busted onto the scene?? People get excited when they can associate clothing to represent something they like.

Really since Fred Durst first wore the red Yankees hat, fitted hats have become more than a fans hat. Its a fashion piece and us sports fans should be happy because it has made the real team hats more accessible than they otherwise would have been.

The logo or design can mean something else to them beside the baseball team. In our area the Nationals hats sell like crazy because the local gangs like to wear them. The logo can be looked at in a way that associated with the gang. Whether they want to admit it or not, MLB recognizes this and markets to buyers that are not necessarily supporters of baseball teams. Why else would the Dodgers release their hat in Red and Purple. Because the Bloods and Grape Street are two of the biggest gangs in LA. So now they can buy a red or purple hat with the "LA" logo on it. Just something to think about when you buy a hat.

"P"

A letter. It stands for something.

We'll just say that the Pirates hat is popular among gangs.

That doesn't mean those people are a part of games. But a lot of people can associate a "P" or the black and yellow with something other than baseball.

Either the kids might be from Pittsburgh or they just like the way the "P" looks. There are people who wear Yankees hats because they like the way it looks, too.

The Pirate "P" cap is the second most popular cap amongst hip-hop stars (behind the Yankee NY)...I can't remember if the trend was started by Dre or 50-Cent, but go to any shopping mall and you'll see kids of all ages sporting the cap.

I have no idea. I always thought that the Yankees were the #1 baseball cap choice of gangsters.

I remember that in England the Yankee hat was a huge trend in clothing. You had to have it. English people (generally) don't even know who the Yankees are.

I notice the same with Yankees, Reds, Braves, and sometimes even Rockies. They go for "color coordination", and think it's cool, or makes wannabees think they look ghetto.
