Scammin' Sammy Sosa spent 13 years patrolling right field for the Chicago Cubs. In those 13 years to Cubs had 5 winning seasons and made the playoffs twice, but Sammy got rich so it wasn't a total loss.
He's the franchise leader in career home runs (545), 3rd in career RBI, and 2nd in slugging and OPS.
Despite these remarkable achievements, which came about thanks to chemical enhancements and a steady supply of cork, Sosa says that he has not spoken to anyone in the organization in "about 3 years" and he bemoans the fact that he has not been invited to participate in the World Series celebration.

You may recall the Sosa left the team about 15 minutes into the final game of the 2004 season and wound up being traded to Baltimore before the 2005 campaign. There is speculation that this is one of the reasons the Cubs have snubbed their former star.

Are the Cubs wrong for ignoring Scammin' Sammy, or does this postseason belong to the real heroes of this franchise?

Lonesome, Sammy had his day in the Wrigley sun. When he and Big Mac had their home run race, they were pumping life back into the Game. I expect the media went looking for him, so Sammy responded. No news here. If a reporter hadn't stirred the pot, I expect Sammy would have been just fine. He probably really isn't even interested in coming to Chicago, so no, the Cubs are not wrong - but it is a shame they ignore their past.

The only piece in there that matters to me is that he left the team early. The rest of the things were done to help the team win. Leaving the team early is a sin. I would not invite him back for that reason alone.

I vote for the heroes.
