Question:
As a fan, do you tend to be more subjective or objective?
2008-03-23 07:21:57 UTC
Can you set your bias aside and look at all sides of an issue, even if the issue is with a team you dislike?

Or do you tend to only see it one way?

I know that we're all more than likely a combination of both, but if you had to choose one (sibjective or objective) that you lean more towards, which one would it be?

I myself have learned over the years that you cant have only one point of view.

Here is one recent argument that I had

Rememeber last year when the Yankees played the Blue Jays and A-Rod yelled "I got It!" at a pop fly that the SS had already fielded and he thought that A-Rod was the Third Baseman so let the ball drop. Well everyone who knows a thing about baseball knows that it is more mental than physical. A-Rod had gotten into th SS's head and made him drop the ball because he wanted to win the SS should have looked to see who had said that before assuming that he should have moved out of the way.

Now from a Toronto fan's point of view I would say that A-Rod is a cheater because he should have never yelled that.

Having two points of view is the key to success in anything and I think that more people should try it.

Great Question Greta!

You have to look at both sides.

But, realistically, the Yankees "get all the calls" from the umpires. Why, because the umpires don't want Steinbrenner on the TV and in the papers bashing them on every contraversial play as he has in the past, and consequentlly, whether you like to hear it or not, they DO get "all the calls" their way.

I like "that Guy's" take on the A-Rod play last year, we said the smae thing. Didn't Yogi say that 90% of the game is mental, and the other 10% is in the head?

Even though I luv my team, you have to go about it with an objective outlook. Things happen in all sports. There was a play in the last years play offs involving Kenny Lofton who was clearly safe & that caused a huge ruckus. It's kinda like life....you need to look at all sides. I am an Indians fan & have been for years. There are times when it is a very long season. :(

Win or loose they're still my Team.

I am a Notre Dame fan & last year was horrible for them. I really took a lot of flack because of it. That's when you need to look at the overall picture...Notre Dame is in a rebuilding stage just like a lot of baseball teams.....ya gotta be positive.

I am objective most of the time however I tend to see the world through Yankee pinstripes when confronted by hecklers.

As a retired sports journalist I was paid to be objective. Sometimes it meant counting to 10!!!

I think can be both subjective & Objective until one proven on way or the other. You see if your team stink that be objective to care for your team and not see their errors that being subjective that being trueful.

I am always very objective. I love the sport as much as my own team so I am not very biased. Or at least I don't think I am.

I strive for objectivity when it matters, even though it's impossible to filter out all of my biases.

And I have no problem with leveling fair criticism at any team, player, or person.

I'm definitely more subjective, but I try and find facts and back up my bias with evidence. At the same time, I don't mind ripping my team when I think they deserve it.
