The Yankees finished a suspended game against Baltimore that was suspended on the top of the 8th, just the other night the called a game off after the 5th inning. Why wasnt the Yankees game called complete?

In order for the game to be called, the home team needs to get last at bat. You need to complete 5 innings or, if you start a top of an inning you must finish the bottom.

The game was suspended because the Yankees took the lead in the top of the inning. A game will be suspended if it is tied, or during the current inning a team has scored to either tie the game, or take the lead, when they did not have the lead after the previous inning was completed. (It doesn't matter that is in the middle of an inning. Example: After seven innings the score is Baltimore 5, New York 3. Yankees score 1 run in the top of the eighth, but it rains, and the game can't be completed that night. Since the Yankees were still trailing when the game got stopped, the game would be called and Baltimore would win)

Before this year if the game was tied after completing at least five innings, the game would be called and it would start over at the beginning. This year they changed the rule, and tie games are now suspended.

the need to finish the complete inning and a specific number of innings (5?) before the game is called. Because it was the middle of an inning it couldn't be callled.
