Slim to none. The best bet is a foul ball behind the plate. A significant number of batters swing low, in an effort to hit one out of the park. If they are just a hair too low, the ball ends up behind the plate and the catcher has the job of fielding the ball. Next best is a foul ball over third base for a right handed batter and first base for a left handed batter. The reason for this is an early swing. Pitches are so fast these days most of the time that most batters swing early in an effort to connect. An early swing results from the batter swinging based on the body motion of the pitcher rather than reacting to the path of the ball on its way to the plate. The batter anticipates the type of pitch based on the pitcher's arm motion, most often resulting in an early swing.. My mom was an avoid baseball fan and always sat behind the plate in Oakland, where the Athletics play, and she watched very carefully and passed this on to me. We used to go to the ball park when they had afternoon games, take a large cooler with food and drink, and sit in the bleachers behind the plate. Even though this was years ago, I enjoyed those lazy afternoons with my mother at the ballpark, lounging in the bleachers which were NEVER full, just enjoying the experience of a picnic at the ballpark. I always got a couple of hot dogs, as I have never had a hot dog as good as it was when I got a couple during the 7th inning stretch... I recently went to a Mariner's game at Safeco Field in Seattle and was totally dismayed that they patted down the attendees for weapons and disallowed ANY food items brought into the park. There went two hoagies I had brought with me, right into a very large garbage can. Did you know a single 10 ounce cup of beer now costs $5? I think I have attended my LAST live baseball game...

I remember being at candlestick and watching the Giants and Braves. For some reason there was this sea gull that just hung around on the field during the entire game. The bird would go and get in the way of the pitcher and the game had to be stopped a few times. Every time some one from the Braves would try to scare the bird off, everyone would boo the player. Eventually the bird made its way to first base and got in the way of plays. Grounds keepers would chase it and it would fly away only to come back a minute later with everyone applauding it.. The bird left around the 7th inning.

How many people do you know that have actually caught a baseball at a game??

The chances are pretty slim.

Improve your chances by taking a glove and go to a game with the most left handed batters if your tickets are on the left field side, the opposite if your seats are on the other side.

Keep you eyes on the action at all times.

Most foul balls are hit into the lower decks, the third decks rarely get a foul ball.

There are two chances very very slim and none. I have been gong to major league games since 1958 and only once even got my hand on a ball in a mad cluster of fans trying to catch a home run. In 10 years of minor league baseball I have caught two, one thrown one hit and have been able to get two others bouncing around on the concourse.

A guy at a Yankees game last year caught 2 IN THE SAME GAME! I would really like to know the odds of that. I think they said it was the second time a fan caught 2 home run balls in the same game. Unbelievable.

well if u go to the game for batting practice then u r more likely to get a ball but it will be a practice ball not a game ball. If u seat near the foul lines ur more likely to get a ball during the game than seating in the outfield. Also ive been to games where if ur near the bullpen and u ask for a ball they will give u one =]

hope i helped

I do not know but once I was at a game where smeone got hit on a shoulder and then at a spring training game in Winter Haven a woman got hit on the nose with a ball. She went to first aid and returned to watch the game while she held an ice pack on her nose. I hope this answer isn't abusive.

Depends on where your sitting. Even if you're sitting in a hot spot where a lot of foul ball go, your odds still aren't that good.

it depends where you sit i heard that in some games that they go threw 100-150 baseballs a game so its about 150 to 50000 haha

not a very god chance....think about it theres what 3,000 if not more at one MLB game and how many balls are caught......20? So out of 150 people 1 person gets a ball.

Let's see, 30k-40k people on average. How many balls go foul? 20-40? So, you do the odds, 40,000 people and 40 fould balls,,,,,doesn't look good!

For me, a greater chance ( Dolphin Stadium, low attendance) in other stadiums much less of a chance.

Your odds are better if you get good seats and bring a glove.

about one in 3,800...

it depends on the stadium you go to (because some teams have more attendees than others)
2008-07-25 21:34:08 UTC
not good hahah. even if it comes right to you, you still have to battle other crazy fans who try to catch it.

you gotta fight for it
