Find out why a curve ball (or screw ball, because that's usually mroe prevalent in softball) curves. That might be more of a math project, but I'm sure it would work for science too.

Explore why a softball doesn't go as far when hit as a baseball.

Measure the size and density, try to hit them in a controlled way, like off a tee using some method of a controlled swing (or just someone who has a good repeatable swing you can video) and do the math to see if you can figure out what accounts for the difference. Is it just that a softball is heavier? Is the fact that it's softer making the force of the bat transfer into a slower initial velocity? What about the increased size, does that impact the wind resistance? How much?

You can use a scale as a force meter to see the force of the bat and a video camera to measure the initial and final speed of the ball.

There's a lot of details I left out, but that's why it's your project.

Get 3 softball players and 3 baseball players... Then get a baseball pitcher and a softball pitcher. Have the baseball pitcher pitch as if in a baseball game to the 3 softball players and record the results Then do vice versa Graph the Results

Why do baseballs travel farther than softballs?

What makes softballs travel further (types of bats)

How about comparing different bats, such as aluminum and wood? Find the best combination of ball and bat, for example tennis ball on wood, or softball on metal.
