A Washington Senators fan in the 1950s is upset that the Yankees keep winning and his team keeps losing. So he sells his soul and is turned into a superstar hitter for the Senators (who moved to Minnesota in 1961). He leads them to the brink of the pennant, then backs out of the deal. But he hits the game-winning homer anyway, and the Senators win the pennant over the Yanks.
My question: do you think this plan would work?
