I just purchased two Frank Thomas #1 draft pick cards on eBay. They have both been rated by the PSA and I am going to get them signed this weekend. I was wondering what the difference between a #1 draft pick card and a rookie card is? Is there even any difference? What is more valuable? They are both made by topps and series #414 and both are rated 8 and 9. What will the value price be when I get them signed?

It's indeed a rookie card-Thomas did in fact play 52 games for the WSox in 1990-the "#1 draft pick" swatch on the cardface is more of a trivial fact than anything else.

The thing about this card is 1) It's a Topps and was way-overproduced not only in the hobby in general-but relative to most other card sets of the same year. 2) It's kind of ugly-especially compared to the Leaf brand Thomas RC of the same year, which was printed on glossy all-white card stock-that card was the one everyone wanted then and today they still go for about 3X what the Topps,Bowman and Score card of 1990 issues do.

Now as for getting it signed-that'll probably actually HURT the value (no pun intended). Here's the thing-if you get them signed you have no proof that the card was actually signed by Frank Thomas. If you look at the same cards on eBay "signed and slabbed" you'll notice up in the corner it says PSA/DNA-that's the branch of PSA that authenticates autographs-in the absence of this ,or any COA from a reputable company or memorabilia dealer,no savvy collector is going to pay any premium for anything without some type of verification-it was estimated a few years back that 70%+ of the sports stuff on eBay that claimed to be autographed was phony. Most people know this now.Soooooo..unless you want to get them signed to hold on to as a collectable yourself I don't think getting them signed will help the value by any means.

1 pick means a pick in the draft. Some high draft picks never make it to the show, and some just never pan out.

Rookie card means the player has made it to the show.

The value for either is going to depend on how well the player does/did in his career. I don't know which would be more valuable though. Rookie card is a little more traditional, whereas a #1 pick card is going to be rarer, but may be less interesting overall.

How some of those cards are classified can be confusing, especially during that time. A #1 draft pick card is not considered a true rookie card. But honestly, call it whatever you like. I believe it is a rookie card once he is on a 40-man roster. At least now it is easier to distinguish rookie cards.

A rookie card is a players first MAJOR LEAGUE card, while a #1 draft pick card is a players overall first card. I think #1 draft pick cards are more valuable and harder to find, congrats on your purchase.

From what i understand having a rookie card signed (any card) kills it value considered damaged. Of course there are exceptions maybe a 500 Home run commemorative card have great value signed but individual cards not a good idea.

The gt 210 is a low end card. Its time to upgrade it. If you like nvidia go with gtx 660 ti or 660 if you want to try amd go for xfx radeon hd 7870. Radeon hd 7870 gives better performance than 660 ti or 660. So I recommend you to go with that.
