Lets say Jeter was drafted by Hou. and was a rookie in 1996 & played with them until 2001. So in those 6 yrs before hitting free agency & going to NY Yankees how many times did the Astros make the playoffs?
From 2002-2014 Jeter got one championship in NY so i'm wondering if his legacy would be completely different if he played in a lineup sandwiched with Biggio/Bagwell/Caminiti?

The Astros would have an open window from 1997-1999 and 2003 to 2006. Going by that, Jeter would have a shot to help the Astros win it all in one of those years with 1998 and 2004 being the most likely years. I know the Astros won the pennant on 2005 but I felt the 2004 team would have done more damage against the Red Sox than the Cardinals had.

It's not like the Astros are bad, the problem is that they weren't able to go deep in the playoffs in their best years despite having a great offensive line up and their pitching rotation weren't bad either.

On further note, Jeter would have signed with the Yankees in 2001 so...the latter part of Astros good era would have been irrelevant but 1998 still stands.

One.

The Astros had some pretty darn good teams during the peak of the Bagwell-Biggio era, and yeah, I'll allow that Jeter at SS could have been the difference-maker one time. It's a happy thought.

Since he in your senerio would sign with the yankees in 2001 all we can go by is Joe Morrgan and Jete would retire a yankees a Hof er just like Morgan did with the Reds

Jeter's legacy would certainly be different, but unless his career performance changed somewhat, he still winds up as an excellent offensive shortstop over a lengthy career who couldn't field, and who is a deserving Hall of Famer.

Maybe in 2004 and 2005.
