Question:
What's your favorite baseball quote?
anonymous

I've got quite a few of them...

I'm curious to see what others favorite quotes from MLB players, managers, etc. are.

No right or wrong answers, this is just a fun question.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby

There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit. ~Al Gallagher

I stare out the window and wait for spring. ~Rogers Hornsby Baseball is the only field of endeavor where a man can succeed three times out of ten and be considered a good performer. ~Ted Williams I'm convinced that every boy, in his heart, would rather steal second base than an automobile. ~Tom Clark A ball player's got to be kept hungry to become a big-leaguer. That's why no boy from a rich family ever made the big leagues. ~Joe DiMaggio During my 18 years I came to bat almost 10,000 times. I struck out about 1,700 times and walked maybe 1,800 times. You figure a ballplayer will average about 500 at bats a season. That means I played seven years without ever hitting the ball. ~Mickey Mantle, 1970 It ain't like football. After the 1960 season the Yankees let Casey Stengel go saying he is 70 years old and if he was 50 he would still be managing the Yankees. Casey responded be saying, " I will never make the mistake of being 70 again". The Mets wanted a big name to manage their new team and no one was bigger than Casey in New York at that time. He accepted the job to manage the Mets by saying, "Most people my age are dead at the present time". During his four years with the Mets his record was 194-452 and they couldn't get fans to come to the ballpark. It was Casey that coined the phrase, "Come and see my amazing Mets" and they are still referred to as the "amazing Mets" today. One of my favorite quotes came from Casey during one of the long losing streaks with the Mets when he said, " Good times are just around the corner but we don't know how long the block is". It brings back a lot of memories for me so thank you for asking the question.

Baseball is a red blooded sport for red blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. Its a struggle for supremacy. A survival of the fittest.

BTW in response to "The Mick 7"s Yogi Berra Quote...the actual quote is "Hitting is 90% mental. The other half is physical."

Back then, my idol was Bugs Bunny, because I saw a cartoon of him playing ball - you know, the one where he plays every position himself with nobody else on the field but him? Now that I think of it, Bugs is still my idol. You have to love a ballplayer like that. ~Nomar Garciaparra

Every hitter likes fastballs, just like everybody likes ice cream. But you don't like it when someone's stuffing it into you by the gallon. That's what it feels like when Nolan Ryan's thrown balls by you. ~Reggie Jackson

It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone.
