What do you think about their lineup and pitching rotation? Which are better? Their offense and defense, which is better? Also, This year what do they improve on? These are my thoughts. I think that they have a weaker lineup because they are missing Damon and Matsui. Johnson is not good as Matsui. I have no idea about the pitching rotation. I don't know if Vazquez is better than Chien-Ming Huang or not. What do you think? Thank you!

Offense:

Losing a bat like Godzilla's hurts. He was a veteran presence; a patient, situational hitter who really stepped up with men on and in clutch situations. That said Granderson is one helluva talent who should really excel as he moves into the heart of that lineup. He'll need to make more consistent contact, but he'll give them speed on the basepaths and--more importantly--will greatly improve their outfield defensively. I think in the end, swapping Hideki, Damon, and Melky for Granderson, Johnson, and Winn will just about even out.

The question won't be with the new guys, but whether or not the old ones can repeat their stellar seasons. Posada, at 38, is going to find it nearly impossible to repeat anything like his .285-22-88 pace--and in just 380 ABs! Jeter reached into the bag to pull out one more great season after slowing in '07 and '08, but can he do it again? How much does he have left? He'll be 36 in midseason..... If Arod or Teixeira are forced to miss any time, the lineup could really struggle.

Essentially though the offense is about the same. The Yanks'll still rake. There are a few more questions, but if Granderson can step up and Johnson can stay healthy DHing, the bats should be fine. The defense, in any case, is improved.

Pitching:

Adding a horse like Vazquez is huge. His numbers will swell a bit, stepping from the NL East to the AL, but that won't really change the fact that he's a great pitcher who'll give the Yankees another solid, dependable arm to trot out alongside Sabathia and Burnett.

What they really need is for one of either Joba or Hughes to step up. They're at the point now that they should be ready to contribute and log big innings for the rotation. In any case, adding Javier Vazquez certainly improves their rotation. I expect Joba to be better too, giving them one more valuable arm. The bullpen still needs work---god forbid something should happen to Rivera---but on the whole the pitching is improved.

I'd rate the offense about the same as last year, if they can stay healthy, and the arms have seen a serious upgrade. The defense, with Granderson replacing Damon, should be improved as well.

Sincerely,

A Rays Fan

I think the line-up will be about the same. What will really matter is the middle of the line-up, Yankees will always have one of the best so It does not matter losing one guy three. Curtis is equal to Damon.

Rotation will be better. There is no way Vazquez will have a losing record and you are walking about Wang that was in the down form of 2008 and 2009, not the Wang won 19 games.

Yankees is definitely better in 2010 than in 2009. However, RedSox is a lot better in 2010 though. It is going to be a interesting race in AL East.

you're making all valid factors; yet right here is yet another. did no longer you ever in simple terms get the vibe from those Yankee communities of 2004-2007 that they have been purely a collective of gamers? purely a team of persons out to make their very own funds, and weren't a good number of a collection. hardly had seize hitting, continuously exchange into some form of information media subject concerns, etc. This Phillies group simply by fact the administrative of those Yankees communities suggested, one Joe Torre, that those Phillies communities ring a bell in me greater of the 1998 long island Yankees then the 2004-07 Yankees. they're a real group, with little ego. seek for the Phils to run throughout Jorge Posada too. who's a pitiful protecting catcher at this evaluate his profession. The Phillies additionally had the optimal proportion of no longer being caught stealing.

i agree that johnson isnt as good as matsui, but hes more consistent and will be helped out by the easy homeruns to right field in the new yankee stadium. granderson was a big pickup and he will outperform what damon did last year. vazquez and wang are fairly similar so i dont think that it will change too much. as much as it hurts to say, i think the yanks have a shot at another world series this year
