I use to go to Candlestick Park and there would be like 7,000 of us there. Now they got all these new fans and I'm like where did all these front runners come from? They never showed up until they built that new park of theirs. Bunch of phonies. I got me like 5 Croix de Candlestick things or whatever, bet these new phony fans don't even know what that is? Go A's by the way.

In their defense Candlestick was just one step above Alcatraz in regards to aesthetics. The cyclone outfield fence, the dirt parking lot, the prison-like concrete structure, the cold weather, swirling winds, and hot dog wrapper land fills in the outfield...

It was a great home field advantage, but not exactly the nicest place to visit. The new fans at AT&T aren't as hardcore as the Candlestick faithful, but it's a great yard, maybe the best in all of baseball. It attracts all types of fans now...the hardcore, the wine sippers, and those there to just have a good time. It doesn't bother me, it is just more revenue that can be spent on fielding a quality team.

Winners bring out the "fans" no matter the sport. I remember the empty Candlestick days - but also remember the teams the Giants had during those lean years. Congrats on your Croix de Candlestick pins - forgot about those. Handed out after extra inning night games...?

Bandwagon fans are everywhere - wanna be's wanna be where the action is - see and be seen. Human nature. Candlestick would be crowded (not filled) if still in operation for Giants today.

I wouldn't call them frontrunners. They've been selling out most of their games for over a decade. During that time, the Giants have had some pretty pitiful teams.

Of course people are going to go to AT&T Park. It is just a much nicer environment for baseball than Candlestick was. Almost every stadium built from the 1960s through the 1980s was a total disaster. During that time, builders stopped caring about making the stadiums look nice. They just wanted to cram as many butts into the seats as possible. If the stadium sucks, people will stay home and watch on TV instead of going to a game. This phenomenon is not unique to the Giants. Every team that has a crappy stadium has bad attendance.

That's exactly what has happened to the A's. I guarantee you that if the A's built a nice new ballpark (probably in San Jose) it would sell out just as often as AT&T does.

Haha. I know exactly what you're talking about. I grew up in Candlestick. I remember being able to walk up and get good box seats in the 90s. I remember the scumbags in the 2.50 bleacher seats who'd break out in fights literally every five minutes. Now it's "cool" to go to ATT and order garlic fries. When you go there, there are so many corporate people who are there on their company's dime and don't even follow baseball (at least in the lower sections)

BTW - I have a bunch of Croixs as well as the 84 All star Pin.

Candlestick is a horrible place to play and watch baseball. If you are trying to say Giants fans bandwagon fans then you might be a little bit right, but every team has some of those fans once they start winning.

Are you mad that your A's didn't get the a spot in the post? I think you are.

Candlestick is/was WAY better than McAfee Stadium. AT&T beats all the other baseball parks. Bandwagons are everywhere. The Giants had 25+ sold out games this season. Most of them were before the successful record. Last year they sucked. They sold out more than they did this year. A's fans never sold out. Sucks for you!

People like the new ballpark better than Candlestick because it is not so cold there. Plus they like the Giants without Bonds on the team.

The Giants first had annual average attendance over 30,000 in 1993, that was the year they won 104 games, and they had acquired one Barry Lamar Bonds from Pittsburgh.

Attendance hovered around 20,000 from 1994 - 1999, bottoming out at 15,000 avg per game in 1995... but total MLB attendance was down in the wake of the 1994 players strike.

Since the year 2000, the Giants have hovered at 38K -40K per game average. It had dropped over the last couple of years, but all of MLB has been seeing a drop in overall attendance.

You're right. 7,000 a year ago, 7,000 now. Going to the post season shouldn't earn the Giants any fans or anything. If anything, the attendance should go DOWN, since even some of the 7,000 were there for the food.
