Rest in peace, Dick Williams, 1972 & '73 World Series champion manager, gone today at age 82.

Williams was elected to the Hall in 2008, so he got to be a living HOFer for only three years. (Going by calendar years here, not exact dates.)

Who was the previous HOFer to pass away with a living Hall tenure of three years or fewer? (Hint: within the last 20 years.)

Yes, must have been alive at the time of election. Posthumous electees don't count here.

Man, it has been a rough couple of years for the Hall's membership rolls. Since the beginning of 2010, we've lost Sparky Anderson, Bob Feller, Harmon Killebrew, Robin Roberts, Duke Snider, and now Dick Williams. I know they were all rich in years, but yeesh, here's hoping the Baseball Reaper takes an extended break.

Richie Ashburn was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 by the Veterans Commitee. He then passed away 2 years later in 1997.

Does Dave Niehaus count? Awarded the Ford C. Frick broadcasters' award in 2008, died in 2010.
