Are the Yankees the most hated team in American sports?

I was at the Rays vs Red Sox game yesterday which the Rays won with a great 8th inning home run. On the way out however everyone started chanting "Yankee's Suck!". Obviously you can't expect anyone in the AL East to like the Yankee's, but it seems like everyone ( Except Yankee's fans and non baseball fans) hates the Yankee's.

I do think the Yankees (or as I call them the Jankees - go to the south Bronx you'll know why) are the most hated team in sports. I can't stand them - I'm a Mets fan who had to grow up with Jankee fans. Tell you what - I've never met a bunch of fair weather fans as Jankee fans. Back in the late 80's early/mid 90's, Yankee fans certainly didn't show up for the games. Matter of fact most people who were kids in the early and mid 80's in the NYC metro region are Met fans - because the Mets were the better team. People jump on the bandwagon.



Yankee and Cowboy fans are the about at the same level. Lots of bandwagon fans who become fans when the team is playing well. For the record though - Boston fans are getting very close to being as annoying as Yankee fans. Red Sox fans have turned there "aw shucks, we have the curse" to really arrogant "Sox are great and every other team stinks" - to the point where Sox fans don't even acknowledge good baseball - I HATE THAT. I don't care how good my team has been playing - if there is a team or player out there playing well, I will at least acknowledge that.



Then you have the success of the Patriots and recent success success of the Celtics, I'm getting sick of the Boston fan. I want to make one thing clear - I think the Boston teams have been playing great but the fans seemed to have influenced so many years by the dominating Yankee and there fans that they've become what they used to hate. Thank God, a total team effort of the NY Giants beat the Patriots or would of been even worse these days. The fact that the Pats got beat by a team like the Giants - a team that is very similiar to those 1st 2 Super Bowl Patriot teams (I mean didn't seem like this years Pat team acted "elitiest" - sure they went undefeated but they had superstar quality, kind of like they weren't a team anymore). Sure some Pat fans will argue that but lets face it - the Pats had 6 wins for sure - just because they played the Bills, Jets and Dolphins were in that division.

I think that the Yankees are the most hated team in American sports. Most people have an opinion on them whether they are a fan or not. As for the Red Sox, they aren't liked but it is nowhere near the level of the Yankees. Besides I think people dislike the fans more than the team.



Also, the Patriots are hated at the moment. No one outside of New England, or the bandwagon, wanted to see them win the Superbowl. But the hate won't last. Once Belichick is gone and they start losing, no one will care about them.



For the Yankees, a lot of people really don't like them and I don't see it going away anytime soon.

I'm a Brewers fan and I would rather see the Cubbies win the world series over the Yankees. I think the reason why so many people hate the Yankees is because they have so much money that they buy there whole team, they don't know how to use a farm system. Baseball needs to be more like football and get a cap limit so teams can't be as dominant as the Yankees have been since the beginning of baseball.



I'm not a big fan of the Red Sox though also because they buy most of there team also.



The Yankees need to watch some film on the Brewers to learn how to use a farm system.

As many People Hate the Red Sox and Patriots as Hate the Yankees, gimme a break. Was ANYONE in this COUNTRY, other than New England Fans, rooting FOR the Patriots to win the Superbowl? Theyre DESPISED, people call them cheaters and Basically Want to see them Lose EVERY game. The Red Sox are hated too. But not on the Level of the Yankees, Thats true. i think what happened to the patriots shows how people can get jealous of success and immediately hate a team. also everyones jumped on the red sox bandwagon since theyve won. oh yeah and it just seems like the yankees are overwhelmingly hated because were more mellow then the obnoxious red sox fans that need to voice theyre opinions every chance they get. dont believe me go to a yanks-sox game at fenway. they wouldnt serve me food haha.

Probably. But not so much for the players, but the brass and fans make them so hated. Though every team has their bad fans, the yankees seem to have some of the most.

Yeah, typical Boston. I used to hear that stuff at Celtics' games, Patriots' games, Bruins' games, even at BC. Those people really need to get a life. I mean, they weren't even playing the Yankees! I don't think so. There are tons of Yankee fans on Y!A. And I was at a Yankee vs Rays game 2 weeks ago and there were tons of Yankee fans. There were probably more Yankee fans than Rays fans at that game.



They were probably just screaming that because there were so many Red Sox fans there. Red Sox fans= Yankee haters.

its not the players fault...its both the media and steinbrenner...year after year all you see on tv are the yankees playing another team...if i was a kid i would think the yuckees where the only pro team in baseball...if i remember..there are several other teams in baseball..i love the sport...which means i would like to see OTHER teams as well...kind of hard to know the other players if all they show are the tankees...
